New Ferrari for the Chosen Few

Mon 20 Jun, 2005 11:02

Ferrari has announced the most specialised car in its history.

Called the FXX, it is based on the Enzo, but redesigned with over 800 bhp and 40% more downforce. It is not homologated for road use and it will not compete in a racing series, so what is it for?

The idea is that 20 will be sold to selected customers who will use it at Ferrari track days with a full team of Ferrari mechanics and engineers on hand. The cars have full car-to-pit telemetry and the owners will give their feedback to Ferrari, effectively becoming semi-official Ferrari test drivers.

To join this exclusive club, you only have to meet two criteria. Firstly the entry price of €1.5 million (£1 million) for a two year programme. Secondly, you have to persuade a Ferrari committee that you know what you are doing. Unless you have credible amateur racing experience, that is going to be very difficult.
